The Alabama football program most likely are not going anywhere soon, even so the loss to Oklahoma was still a blow towards the idea that the Tide can not be turned.

Tonight was the yesterday of the Alabama empire.

That doesn't mean that Alabama won't ever win a national champion, or even that it will be a long time ahead of they do. The smart money can be on Nick Saban winning a minumum of one more before he leaves the Tuscaloosa.

But the period when Alabama towered within the college football landscape, when it lost five games during four years, when its name began to carry the same undertones inside college football that names such as Yankees and Patriots have sometimes held in their respective sports -- that time period is over. Alabama is currently is just another college-football team. A very outstanding team -- one of the best. Just not one that seems amazing.

We knew it might happen, of course. Dynasties inside sports don't last eternally. Despite all the accomplishment the Patriots have had in recent years in the NFL, they may be not seen as the identical team that they have been from 2001 to 2004, after they won three Super Dishes. And Alabama will likely not be viewed quite the identical way they were a couple weeks ago, particularly not following the latest loss.

Because cures saw Thursday night had not been just a loss. Oklahoma did things that did not happen to the Alabama in the dynasty years, or at the least didn't happen very generally. The 45 points Alabama surrendered were the most it has given up inside the Nick Saban Era, each ESPN. The Tide flipped the ball over 5 times. A. J. McCarron, that threw two interceptions, sometimes looked as lost as he ever is wearing a football field.

Ok was 8-of-16 in third- and 4th-down conversion. The Sooners acquired 429 yards; Alabama has allowed more than 429 yards in simply three games going back to the beginning of the 2009 season -- twice against LSU once against Texas A&M.

And Thursday night marked initially in five years that Alabama has lost two games inside a row. The last losing streak also ended inside the Sugar Bowl, also in opposition to a supposedly overmatched crew, when the Tide lost to Utah, also by simply a pair of touchdowns. That was the past loss before Alabama's reign of terror within the SEC and college basketball began.

Alabama's not proceeding away. Nick Saban is still one of the biggest minds in college football as well as the Top 3 recruiting classes are probably going to continue to roll in. More trips to Atlanta come in the program's future, as well as the four-team playoff could actually enhance the chances that Alabama will play with the national title again soon.

Barring the truly unlikely, though, Alabama isn't going returning to where it stood just some months ago any time soon. It's hard to gain three national championship inside four years once inside a lifetime; doing it again, after the tumble Alabama took this season, seems nearly impossible. Nick Saban being Nick Saban, the task will continue.
